Do you dream of being a wizard? Does destroying your opponent with fireballs and lightning bolts sound fun? How about releasing fantastic creatures to attack your opponent. Or casting powerful effects over your opponent and sometimes over the entire battlefield itself.

Well you are in luck because the highly popular collectible game (actually the very first trading card game ever released) Magic: The Gathering allows you to release your inner wizard.

The who's and what's

What is Magic The Gathering?

Magic: The Gathering (colloquially known as Magic or MTG) is a tabletop and digital collectible card game created by Richard Garfield. Released in 1993 by Wizards of the Coast (now a subsidiary of Hasbro), Magic was the first trading card game and had approximately thirty-five million players as of December 2018,and over twenty billion Magic cards were produced in the period from 2008 to 2016, during which time it grew in popularity.

A player in Magic takes the role of a Planeswalker, a powerful wizard who can travel ("walk") between dimensions ("planes") of the Multiverse, doing battle with other players as Planeswalkers by casting spells, using artifacts, and summoning creatures as depicted on individual cards drawn from their individual decks. A player defeats their opponent typically (but not always) by casting spells and attacking with creatures to deal damage to the opponent's "life total," with the object being to reduce it from 20 to 0. Although the original concept of the game drew heavily from the motifs of traditional fantasy role-playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons, the gameplay bears little similarity to paper-and-pencil games, while simultaneously having substantially more cards and more complex rules than many other card games.

Who are the Wizards of the Lake?

The Wizards of the Lake is a team of Magic The Gathering Players (also known as Planeswalkers). We enjoy playing and teaching our favorite card game, Magic: The Gathering.

The focus of the Wizards of the Lake is to bring our favorite game to the world. Members are ready and willing to teach all who are interested in becoming a Planeswalker.

From the basics on gameplay to tips and strategies, all Phoenix Squad Members stand ready to assist young and old wizards alike.

Wizards of the Lake members consider Magic The Gathering part of their lifestyle. As such, they typically have resources to supplies and goodies that may enhance your Magic The Gathering experience. After all, Magic The Gathering is a "collectors" game as well.

The Wizards of the Lake Motto: "Wizards of any order recognize each other as students of the curious and amazing"

Who is DuncanMage68?

DuncanMage68 is me. The great mage of the Multi-verse.

Like Elminster and Gandalf, DuncanMage68 wanders among the people sharing the secrets of mystics and sorcerers.

I created The Phoenix Squad in an effort to combat evil and bad times with good and fun times. The power of games is a unique power indeed. I collect games and none has brought more fun into my life then Magic The Gathering. From the art to the collectability factor to the actual game itself, Magic The Gathering is a very unique experience. I envision The Phoenix Squad as a select group of magic players who not only enjoy all aspects of Magic The Gathering but equally love sharing the game with others.

"I no longer feared the darkness once I knew the phoenix in me would rise from the ashes."

- William C. Hannan.
